Q: Can I color the concete stone
A: Yes, there are many different way to color concrete, you can see our instruction guide for more details on coloring concrete.

A:Not for our shallow molds, but with deeper molds, such as the Large Retaining Wall Blocks, you may find that using a mold release will aid in releasing the stones. For our molds, a petroleum based release agent, such as a non-detergent motor oil or used motor oil, will work best. A vegetable oil based release agent is also suitable for these molds. All release agents should be applied in a thin, even coating on the interior of the mold prior to each use.

A:First, it is important to make sure that the concrete has completely hardened, before attempting to release it from the molds. Concrete can become stuck to the molds, if the castings are released before they have completed dried. And once this occurs, the molds must be cleaned thoroughly, to prevent the next pour from sticking as well. Cleaning the molds between use, will prolong the life of the molds. We recommend that you start the cleaning process using dish soap and warm water. Wash out your molds with the mixture, using a soft bristle brush to clean detailed areas. Rinse thoroughly. If stronger measures are needed, try a mixture of one part water to one part muratic acid (use protective gloves and eyewear, as this product is caustic). Again, it is important that you rinse the molds thoroughly.

A:Trapped air in concrete causes what are known as "bug holes" - unsightly flaws on the surface of the concrete. We suggest that concrete be poured directly into the center of the molds, whenever possible. This directs the flow down and outward. Also, pour slowly, this will help to push the air out of the mold, allowing less air to be trapped by the concrete. The use of vibration will greatly enhance the appearance of your finished product, as it will create a much smoother surface on the castings. Vibration is important for both flat and vertical pieces and can be achieved a variety of ways. Lightly bouncing a filled mold, tapping all around the mold with a rubber mallet or do-it-yourself vibration tables will help. Tip: Some of our customers have used back massagers to vibrate their castings, with good success.
Q: How long does it take for concrete to dry?
A: The time it takes for concrete to dry will depend on the concrete mix that is used - you can purchase ready-mix, fast-set concrete that will harden in as little as 3 hours. But, general mix concrete needs approx. 24 hours to set before it is ready to be removed from the mold. Weather conditions can also effect the time it takes concrete to dry, for instance, wet or humid weather will slow the process, and dry conditions can speed up the time it takes.
